چکیده

The term, acute coronary syndrome (ACS), describes a spectrum of clinical conditions ranging from ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) to non–ST-segment elevation MI (N–STEMI) and unstable angina (UA) (Fig. 119.1) (1). These manifestations of acute myocardial ischemia may revert to the presymptomatic state or evolve into a non-Q wave (also termed nontransmural) MI or to Q wave (or transmural) MI (Fig. 119.1). The boundaries between UA, N-STEMI, and STEMI are not always well defined. Indeed, the three entities should be considered as different and dynamic clinical manifestations of a continuous pathogenetic spectrum; N-STE-ACS are represented by UA and N-STEMI.

Impact of Age on Risk Factors and Clinical Manifestations of Acute Coronary Syndrome: Observations From the Coronary Care Unit of Sulaimani, Iraq

Background: ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI ) are common types of acute coronary syndrome which are associated with the risk factors of age, obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. Objective: The present study aimed to examine the effects of age on the risk factors and clinical sym...

Vitamin D deficiency predicts the ST elevation type of myocardial infarction in patients with acute coronary syndrome.

According to studies, a significant association exists between the low levels of vitamin D and cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction (MI). In a prospective, case control study, 88 patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) including ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and Non-STEMI were enrolled. The plasma level of 25-hydroxy vitamin D[25(OH)D] was obtained at the time ...

Current Management Strategies for Non-st Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction

The term “acute coronary syndrome” encompasses unstable angina and non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (UA/ NSTEMI) and ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). UA/NSTEMI is the combination of two closely related clinical entities (i.e., a syndrome), whereas STEMI is a distinct clinical entity. UA/NSTEMI is characterized by an imbalance between myocardial oxygen supply and...

Contemporary management of acute coronary syndrome.

This review focuses on the modern management of the non-ST elevation acute coronary syndromes (unstable angina and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction). Patients with these syndromes are at varying degrees of risk of (re)infarction and death. This risk can be reliably predicted by clinical, electrocardiographic, and biochemical markers. Aspirin, clopidogrel, heparin (unfractionated or low mo...
